The path, a former Roman diverticulum (secondary road) that ran from the bridge at Membre, on the Semois, to Marche via Louette, Proiji and Haut-Fays, at an altitude of 440 meters, is thought to have been an observation fort in the 4th century, intended to protect against Germanic invasions.

La Douvelette, a marshy area, includes numerous trout ponds. The locality known as Malplake is said to have been inhabited in the 17th and 18th centuries by a certain Marcin, who called himself Lord of Gembes.

Following the Ri des Trembles leads to the Pont de Proiji. One hundred meters from the bridge are the foundations of an old farm dating from the beginning of the century. The Ferraris map indicates a mill attached to this farm. One kilometer south of the bridge, a church existed until the 15th century, giving the place the name Vieille Église (Old Church). By creating a communal mill and an oven, the Abbey of Mouzon, which owned the land in 1243, sought to attract settlers by developing the area, but the project failed. Not far from the stream, in the woods of Grand Charlemont, witches worshiped the devil when going to the sabbath.

The walk follows the Rancenne, climbs back up toward Sclassin and enters the Franc Quartier woods, which belonged to the Lord of Sclassin. In the 19th century, the municipality of Haut-Fays purchased the former seigneurial residences.
