The Pont des Gades

The Pont des Gades is a historic stone bridge dating back to 1851,

Its main features are:

• Architecture: It is made up of three arches and built of schist, a stone typical of the region. Its parapet is decorated with schist slabs carved in a half-moon shape.

• Meaning of the name: “Gades” means “goats” in Walloon. The bridge owes its name to the herds of goats that once used it to reach the surrounding pastures.

• Protection: The bridge and the land around it have been listed as part of Wallonia’s built heritage since 1991, reflecting its historical and architectural importance.

• Location: It spans the Almache River, a tributary of the Lesse, and is a point of interest for hikers exploring the Belgian Ardennes region.
