Water Pump

It is commonly referred to in the region as a water pump. However, it is more accurate to call it a water-raising machine.

Put into service in 1870, it operated until 1952: a remarkable lifespan.

This machine drew water from the groundwater table and lifted it to a reservoir located 48 meters higher: another feat for its time.

Powered solely by hydraulic force, it would have satisfied even the most environmentally conscious people today. However, it must be acknowledged that current water needs are far greater than they were a century ago.
